When caring for someone you love collides with the question of their autonomy, love is no longer a simple answer
Amanda and her stepfather Martin face a decision with no easy solution. Leslie, Amanda’s mother, is suffering from advanced dementia and is increasingly losing the ability to make decisions about her own life. Who should take responsibility for her future – her loved ones or institutions? When caring for another person begins to mean restricting their freedom, family relationships are put to a severe test. Lance Hammer creates subtle, moving social cinema that avoids easy answers and raises questions about love, dignity, autonomy and the limits of care.

«Thanks to its skilful and intelligent storytelling, “Queen at Sea” is a joy to watch. It is not an easy film, but it is immensely absorbing and beautifully shot.»

«Hammer builds a reality in different shades. He does not try to search for unequivocal answers.»

«The director of “Queen at Sea” asks about the limits of care in an exceptionally moving way. (…) Excellent, though presented as very classical social cinema.»
