Coppola’s “Megalopolis” at 15th FKA
A controversial film by a master that evokes extreme emotions among viewers — “Megalopolis”, Francis Ford Coppola’s opus magnum will shock audiences at this year’s Camera Action Festival. Shown in Cannes, the film is political satire, science-fiction and a reference to ancient Rome in one.
Absolute madness, the craziest film I have seen in my life. (…) There is absolutely nothing in Megalopolis that resembles anything from a “normal” movie. The story has its own logic, pace and language. The characters speak ancient phrases and words, mixing passages from Shakespeare and Ovid with simple Latin. Some characters communicate in rhyme, others in sublime verse

Coppola has enlisted the hottest stars of world cinema for his production – viewers will see Adam Driver (“A Marriage Story,” “Annette”), Aubrey Plaza (“White Lotus”) or even Dustin Hoffman (“The Graduate,” “Rain man”) on screen. The film was more than 40 years in the making – the first version of the script was already written in the early 1980s, three years after the release of the famous “Apocalypse Now.” The production cost $120 million and was financed by Francis Ford Coppola himself – to make it happen, the director sold shares in his profitable vineyard. Was it worth it? Who will be enthralled by the film, and who will flee the cinema hall? One thing is certain – at the 15th FKA, discussions about Coppola’s film will continue into the night.
The 15th Kamera Akcja Festival will be held from 24 to 27.10.2024 in Łódź and from 14 to 23.10.2024 online on the Think Film platform. The task is implemented thanks to a grant from the budget of the City of Łódź. Subsidized by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Cultural Promotion Fund, the Polish Film Institute and the University of Łódź – the festival’s patron. The main partners of the festival are Monopolis and the Film School in Lodz. The Kamera Akcja Festival and the Festiwal Człowiek Mediów w Zagrożeniu form the “Lodz Film Festival” cooperation network.
